Description

The project WASMAN was directed towards developing a model concept for waste management, aimed at the promotion of waste prevention and minimization through source reduction, producer responsibility and the improvement of citizens’ awareness with applicable insights, knowledge, methods, participation process, local pilot actions and innovative technology for an environmentally friendly solid waste management.

Furthermore, the project promotes synergies and disseminates good practices at the transnational level among Mediterranean countries in the field of waste management governance, taking into account specific problems of each partner area.

The project scope is to assist municipal governments to develop a more cost-effective Municipal Solid Waste Management system (“zero waste” strategy) and to enhance local economies incentivating cost-effective initiatives of the product-chains and identifying niches for local enterprises.

The project was co-funded by the EU, within the Mediterranean programme.
